Just Like Riding a Bike (for the First Time)

Warner Springs to Combs Peak Ridge

PCT Miles 111.39 to 129.24

The training wheels are off baby! Last night was a very late night making sure we were set to get out here today and beyond. I was enjoying my warm bed so much this morning and found myself struggling to get going for a bit.

Mom and Jenn joined us for several hours of beautiful scenery out of Warner Springs today. The beauty was largely thanks to a brook that flowed down the valley, forcing us to cross it about 5 times, and providing much of the greenery in the immediate area.

When they left we said a long goodbye that had some pretty heavy emotion packed behind it. The packs were also physically heavier today and I definitely felt it. I was sweating way more and had to stop more frequently for water.

We broke down into camp pretty early tonight, partially because the next camp site is so far, partially because my right calf is hurting, and partially because we knew setting up shop would take longer than we wanted.

Here at camp is what it's all about. The actual hiking is nice, but I've always loved the stillness and silence backpacking evenings bring. We had some delicious food that Mama prepared for us, and now I'm ready to climb out of the cold and into that warm, cozy bag.
